Partners through prayer,

June? Could it possibly be? I have just celebrated my 39th birthday, Linda leaves for a wedding in the US in 8 days, and life is completely chaotic.

Construction – the porch project is coming along. It was more complicated than we had anticipated, but should provide a great place for services within a couple of weeks. Rainy season has slowed us down, and the dripping into our bedroom is a little annoying, but we are excited about the ministry opportunities that this will provide.

Seminary – Class is winding down. I had 12 to 14 students weekly. The class on Genesis was great. We had a weekly snack provided by different students each week. This may have helped attendance, but also added to the battle of the bulge. Next semester I will be teaching a class on the Christian Life in the Home, Church and Society.

Church – Francisco visited church Sunday night for the first time. Pray for him, Nazare, his wife and Artur, their son. He was very responsive and assured me that they will be back!

Bible Studies – Vitor and Alexandre have not studied since a discussion about Mary’s role in salvation. Pray for their salvation and that they would be willing to continue our study in the Gospel of John.

Good News – We are excited about an evangelistic tool that will be available soon in Portuguese, English and all the languages of the world as God directs. My father, Chuck Anderson, has begun Discovery News that is sharing the gospel through printed form. Our desire is to print and use this in the two existing churches and the three new church planting works. We would like to print 50,000 to begin with. I am attaching the first page in Portuguese. If you have interest in this world wide ministry, please contact pastorchk@aol.com or 303-322-0942.

Prayer Update

This update could have been written last week requesting prayer, but must go out now as a request for praise! Last week we had a five day club here at our house. There were over thirty kids the first night, and despite rain the numbers were good all week.

Pray for the contacts that were made. Especially remember a young gal named Rafaela, who brought her little brother each night. They were both back for our worship service last night and have clearly heard the gospel. She seems very interested in joining us for youth group, and would like to begin an English Bible study with Ellie, a fellow missionary who is considering joining our team.

God also opened a door for the Gospel with Leonardo, Iolanda and their children. I serve on a board of directors with Leonardo here in our neighborhood. Their children, Marilha and Lucas, were present every day. Lucas has muscular dystrophy, and I wondered if they would return after his parents came to visit concerning his difficulties with the game time.

Ellie did a great job organizing our teens into teachers and leaders. Pray that God will make His will known to her and us concerning the possible partnership here in Maceió.

We thank God that you have joined us through prayer!

Prayer Update

It does not seem possible that May is upon us, school should be out in a few more weeks, and we are nearing the one year anniversary of our return to Brazil for our third term. Our initial move to Brazil was just over eleven years ago, in April 1998. Oh, how time flies.

Thank you for your prayers for our joint men’s retreat last weekend. There were men from all four of our Bible churches. I spoke on our responsibility as men to love and lead our wives. The men’s response was great. We have begun a forty-day “Desafio de Amar” or “Dare to Love”. Pray for fruit that will remain.

Our table feels empty right now, as Elisabeth flew to Fortaleza for the graduation of a close friend and fellow MK. I can’t say that we are suffering from an empty nest, but we all miss her.

It seems that studies have been hit and miss recently. Actually more miss than hit. I do believe that Dr. Rui, Vitor, Alexandre, Alefe, and Berto clearly understand the Gospel. Pray that God will draw them to Himself and that they will believe.

Continue to pray for Yan’s spiritual growth. Our family was in his home for his birthday party on Friday. The need for Christ is evident from the youngest to the oldest. Pray for Yan’s witness with his family and also for his growth despite difficult surroundings.

His servants and your co-laborers,

A steaming bowl of black beans and parts of pigs that you would never consider eating in the US – that accurately describes Yan’s feijoada party!

Prayer Update

Co-laborers in taking the Good News to te nations,

I'm sorry that there is not tme to give a complete update today. Please pray for these requests.

- Dan is speaking at a men’s retreat starting tomorrow. Pray that the men will be challenged in their relationships with the Lord and their wives.
- Pray for Alexandre’s salvation. He and Monica are good friends of the Andersons, and he may attend the men’s retreat even though the refreshments will all be non-alcoholic.
- Pray for Pedro’s salvation and for his relationship with Fabiana. They appear to be near separation. Dan studied the Gospel with Pedro nine years ago, but he has yet to believe.
- Pray also for the last four and one half weeks of school for our family. They are all ready to be done and struggling to focus. You have all been there I am sure.

I will fill you in more completely next week.

His servant and your co-laborer, Dan

Prayer Update

It is hard to believe that three weeks have passed since we last wrote. Either life is getting busy again, or we have not had anything to write about! Now that I am finally writing, I realized that this has been a week of ALMOSTS:

I almost gave up on my study with Dr. Rui. Things have been busy for both of us, and we have not been able to study the last few weeks. I was unsure whether to keep pursuing, or give him space. Linda and I talked and prayed about it and were not sure which was best. Imagine our surprise when he called to wish us a Happy Easter and Good Friday and then joined us for Sunday afternoon Easter meal with my co-worker Roger and his family. He appears to be almost ready to make a decision to trust Christ alone!

Friday night, while out celebrating completion of Ian’s initial discipleship studies we were almost robbed. A teen jumped in front of our car trying to get us to stop, when I went around him, one of his four buddies at the side of the road smashed our car roof with something similar to a baseball bat. Some pieces were broken and the roof dented, but the teen almost hit a window that would surely have shattered where four of our kids were seated. We continued driving without looking back, and have been thanking the Lord for His protection!

Elisabeth and Micah almost introduced two of their friends to Christ. Kessia and Alefe were very attentive in a conversation that the four of them had after our youth group meeting. Pray that their “almost” will become “persuaded”(see Acts 26:28).

Elisabeth’s had a big party, which is the Brazilian norm for 15th birthdays, on her sixteenth birthday last week. The Gospel was clearly shared through her testimony with almost sixty teens who attended. Almost all of the 35 pizzas were consumed!

I almost forgot to thank you for partnering with us through prayer. “THANK YOU!”

His servants and your co-laborers,
PS – please pray for Vitor and Alexandre. Our conversation last night became a little heated as Mary’s role in salvation came up. Pray that God’s Word would do the offending and not me. Also pray that their eyes would be opened! I will write more next week.
Dan was the speaker at the 5 year anniversary of Victory Baptist Chruch, that our friends the Leonards started in Coqueiro Seco. The work continues despite the attack on John four years ago.

Prayer Update

We are all jealous of the snow and ice that we here of in the US, as we are boiling down here and anxious for the break that the rainy season will give us from the heat.

Thank you for joining us as partners in bringing the good news of the Gospel to Brazil. Life seems busier than ever, with evangelistic Bible studies, discipleship studies, youth group lesson preparation, large group study preparation, Seminary preparation and teaching, Seminary studies for Dan’s master’s degree, and the every day details of raising and training seven children. “Lord, make us wise stewards of our time and the opportunities we have to train our children and others for You.”

Please pray specifically for endurance, as the next two months will be a rat race, as we finish school (home school, Seminario, and Seminary), continue to add new studies, and try to finish the porch where services are held.

We thank God for the provision of some additional support from one of our “home” churches. The increase was: 1) an incredible reminder of God’s faithfulness and provision. 2) an incredible encouragement and evidence of this congregations conviction that God has called us to this work. 3) an incredible relief and help as a recent budget from our home office showed us lacking in monthly support. [Write us if you would like more details]. “Thank you, Lord, for Your timely provision.”

Dan’s most recent study is on Tuesday nights from 9:00 to 10:30. Vitor and Alexandre are both studying English with our son Micah twice a week. They return a third time to study the Gospel of John with me in English. They are both from committed Catholic homes. “Lord, open Vitor and Alexandre’s eyes and call them to Salvation.” Watch for pictures and updates on these two!

His servants and your co-laborers,

Our favorite time to visit the beach is at night. No CROWDS and no SUNBURNS

It is not glamorous, but somebody has to do it. A tub of ice-cream, nine spoons, and a beach – now that is a great combination

It must be a cultural thing, Josiah had no qualms about sharing the same bowl with his brother & sisters!

Prayer Update

Linda had her hands full last weekend, as we had people in our home, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Thursday – co-missionaries from the state of Ceará came to visit and consider the needs in Alagoas. Pray that Bruce and LeeAnn would know God’s direction about possible future ministry here in Arapiraca, an interior city of over 300,000 people that is desperately in need of the Gospel.

Friday – we celebrated Alef’s birthday with chocolate chip cookies and a sleep over. Micah had two additions to his room, while the girls all slept in a tent with two visitors. Pray for Alef, Artur, and Barbara’s salvation.

Saturday – youth group was smaller than usual, but the study went well. Alef and Kessia both have heard the gospel clearly multiple times. Pray that they will choose to trust Christ.

Sunday – We had Sandro and Raquel into our home with their three children: Kessia, João and Tiago. I had a great opportunity to look at Scriptures with Sandro. We are not sure of their belief, but there was some question months ago about Jesus being God. I believe that they know the Word of God, but possibly not the GOD of the Word.

Monday – Linda hosted our inter-church ladies meeting with women from Clima Bom, Vilage Campestre and Jardim Petropolis. Linda spoke on the need for personal time in the Word of God. Pray that Linda would be used of God to impact the pastor’s wives: Daniele, Karla, Fabiana and Sancha.

Seminary has begun twice! Last week I had my first Analysis of Genesis class with eleven students. A handful of others asked if they could still join the ranks of the condemned that have to endure my lessons. Tomorrow, I will begin classes with Pastor Eriomar. Pray as I translate and we work together to earn our Master’s degrees to further the opportunity for the seminary her in Brazil.

His servants and your co-laborers,
Thankful for good weather, as unseasonal rain has affected other meetings & construction on our porch / auditorium.

Linda felt more confidence & freedom in teaching than ever before

All of the ladies were very responsive to the message of personal devotions

Dan & the kids were sad to miss out on the festivities & great food!

Sara is up and going again after her surgery. She & Fabiana helped to fill the van coming and going from the ladies meeting!

Prayer Update

The Brazilian holiday of Carnaval is over. Stores should be opening now, as noon Wednesday is the “unofficial” time for things to get back to normal. Linda and I were surprised that the festivities began early as we confronted by heavy drinking, reveling and cross-dressing on our Valentine’s Day date to ride bikes on the beach. We turned around and left quickly.

The Bible churches had a special retreat for all of our teens to help them resist the evils and temptations of this time. João de Deus brought the messages, and Elisabeth and Micah both commented on how thankful they were for the challenges from the life of Joseph.

Last week, amidst all the hospital visits with Sara, we were blessed by a new birth. Linda and I are not announcing another Anderson child, but another son of God. The Bible study with Yan was very pointed about his personal need for Christ. When I asked what he would do with Christ, he surprised me by stating that he had already accepted him as Savior. Following our previous study, seven days earlier, Yan had laid in bed and trusted Christ. What a cheer went up in the Anderson home. We have prayed for Yan’s salvation for over ten years.

Pray that our neighbors will get back today for our Bible Study. Also pray for the porch project that needs to be completed before we begin Sunday services in the month of March.

His servants and your co-laborers,

Even Josiah joined in the NERF BALL fun!

Our front room was the battlefield. None of the 60 balls were lost!

Special Update

Thank you for your prayers for Sara. The supposed stomach infection was actually a more serious problem. The exit from Sara's stomach was blocked, and after visiting four hospitals, we finally found one that was able to diagnose the problem. She was placed on I.V., had her stomach pumped and after a day and a half had recovered her strength sufficiently to undergo surgery.

Dan just returned from the hospital. The surgery was successful and Sara is in recovery. She will remain under observation until Monday and if all goes well, should be home early next week.

This has been a trying week for Dinho and Fabiana. Their faith has been stretched and has definitely grown. Thank you for your prayers. Dan was asked to do a Bible study with Dinho's father, Adeildo and stepmother, Isabel. God also allowed Dinho to share his faith with the surgeon. Pray especially for the salvation of Dinho's mother, brother and sister.

Thanks again for praying. Dinho asked me to communicate his gratitude.
His servants and your co-laborers,

Prayer Update

Dinho and Fabiana are fitting right into the ministry in Clima Bom. Dinho is working with the young people and helping with visitation, evangelism and discipleship. Dinho will begin work on his GED so that he can one day complete his bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies. Pray for self-discipline and growth in this internship time under Pastor Eriomar.

Fabiana has her hands full right now with their two boys and recently born, Sara. Sara has been doing well, but has a stomach infection that is causing her to vomit every time she nurses. Realizing how serious this can be for such a new baby, we covet your prayers.

Ian began an evangelistic study with Dan last week. His enthusiasm for what we study is great, and his grasp that salvation is by faith alone appears to be developing. Pray that he will be faithful and come to faith in Christ.

Natalia continues to study with Elisabeth. She has really grown since placing her faith in Christ in 2008. Pray that she will begin to witness and attend church services. Continue to pray for Natalia's boyfriend, Berto. He has changed jobs and has been unable to study the Gospel of John with Dan recently. Pray that Berto would continue the Bible Study.

A recent invitation for a party at Alexandre and Monica's house included all of the Anderson's and our trampoline and fuss ball table. They are incredible hosts and would be a very influential couple for the Church when they finally believe. Dan continues to pursue an evangelistic study with them. Pray for Berto & Camila, Bigode & Donna, and Dancer & his wife to accept invitations to study the Bible.

Prayer Update

Just a quick update from the prayer request for my Mom:
PTL
For those of you who have not been to Bible College, that is "PRAISE THE LORD" in the "original".

All scans came back negative. There are no signs of cancer anywhere else, so the tumor will be treated with local radiation and no general CHEMO for now. We are grateful to the Lord! In our travels, I am always amazed at how many of you know my parents, so I am including their contact information. If you would like to write them a note of encouragement, I am sure they would appreciate it

Prayer Update

What a great weekend. I preached three nights at an evangelistic rally at our first work in Clima Bom. The turn out was great, there were 47 first time visitors on Sunday night. Three people trusted Christ as their personal Savior. Crisitano accepted Christ on Saturday night. His wife is a new believer, and had shared her testimony the night before. A young boy and an adult woman also choose to believe in Christ alone. Our eldest, Elisabeth shared her testimony tonight to a full house, and to God's glory, she clearly presented how Christ had saved her and changed her life. (sorry that I do not have pictures from this crusade – I guess I was too busy preaching)

Alife and Emmanuel joined us for some of the evangelistic services. They both seem ripe enough to fall off the tree, but have not yet trusted Christ. Rui, Berto and Ian have all begun anew in evangelistic studies with Dan. Pray with us that God's word would not return void.

I am writing kind of late, because sleep has been eluding me. It was not the exciting finish of the Super Bowl, but concern for my Mom. I am trying to decide if I am being anxious, or very, very fervent in my prayers. Mom had a bunch of tests this week and she will get the results from her Oncologist tomorrow. Doctors discovered a tumor they believe to be cancerous, in her eye, and they are seeking to determine if there are any other tumors before deciding how to attack it. We were just finishing our first term in 2001, when Mom began her initial battle with cancer. The distance is daunting, but our God is not in the least limited by time or space as our prayers go up before His throne.

Well, it is after 2:00 in the morning, so I think I will pray again and try to sleep. I do so appreciate your prayers.

His servants and your co-laborers,

The “train” was not functioning, but it made a great KODAK picture.

May not pass safety inspections in the States, but the spinning farris wheel was a hit.

Vitor & family shoot off some fireworks at his birthday party while Rachel looks. Pray that we might be able to reach his family with the Gospel.

2009 MINISTRY GOALS
Dan & Linda ANDERSON - Maceió, Alagoas, BRAZIL

After six months back in Brazil, we have much for which to thank God. We are also excited and challenged by the needs and opportunities of 2009. The progress of the work in our state is encouraging, but when compared to the vastness of the need it is daunting. Thankfully, we serve a God who specializes in the humanly impossible. Pray with us to recognize WHO we serve –
"Ah, Sovereign LORD, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm.
Nothing is too hard for YOU." Jeremiah 32:17

Igreja Bíblica de Vila Rica - After four years and six months of regular weekly services we were saddened to have to make some dramatic changes. The faithful group has dwindled down to nearly nothing. One veteran missionary has sought to remind us repeatedly of the most important factor in church planting. This factor is totally out of our control. It is beyond strategizing. It is the GOD FACTOR. We plan to continue two studies per week, one is led by Enoch and Vanalda who live on the church property and one led by Dinho. Dinho and family moved back to Clima Bom to finish the classes necessary to receive his bachelor's degree, and to be further equipped by Pastor Eriomar.
  • Pray for a breakthrough in this community.

  • Igreja Bíblica de Vilage - David and Karla have been with the church plant in Vilage Campestre for the last year. They were discipled by missionaries Phil and Rachel Stucky. In December, the church became independent; and David graduated from seminary, was ordained and installed as pastor.
  • Pray for a smooth transition and growth for both the church and David's family.
  • Pray for Karla, expecting their second child.

  • Igreja de Jardim Petropolis - The new work in our home in Jardim Petropolis is underway. We have been having a large group study on Wednesday nights and youth group for the last four months. We plan to begin Sunday services in March after Carnaval. In the last half of 2009, we praised the Lord for the salvation of Natalia. Elisabeth had the privilege of introducing her to Christ after years of prayer and witnessing. Natalia's boyfriend, Berto, studies with Dan and is very close to a decision. Our goal is to reach our neighbors for Christ, through home Bible studies and discipleship by taking advantage of the friendships that God has allowed us to make over the last eight years. A church in this neighborhood would be able to reach into the middle and upper classes that so desperately need the Gospel.
  • Pray for these KEY people in Jardim Petropolis: Berto; Alexandre & Monica; Dr. Rui; Carlos & Sonya; Gilson & Neide; Edivaldo & Donna; Sandro & Raquel.
  • Pray for these youth: Alife, Leonelle, Ian, Emmanuel, Gabriel, Kesia, João, Tiago, Juliana

  • Instituto Bíblico Esperança - The year of 2008 included the first graduation from Hope Bible Institute and Seminary. David received his bachelors degree in Pastoral Studies. Berto and Dinho are only lacking a few courses to graduate, with many others attending to be more prepared for local church ministry. We were thrilled to add a federal lawyer, João de Deus and his wife Sancha to our list of students in 2008. João and Sancha believe that God has called them to prepare for pastoral ministry. Dan will be teaching Analysis of Genesis.
  • Pray that the Lord of the Harvest would send more laborers - from Brazil and USA.

  • Anderson's Family Goals - How could this be said without sounding like bragging parents? We could not be happier with where our children are in their development. There is room to grow in each of them, without a doubt. Their sensitivity to the Word of God, the spiritual needs of others and to God's directing in their lives leaves me speechless. Well, almost. "Thank You, Lord. May you be glorified in my children's lives. They are Yours. Use them as You desire."
  • Pray that we will teach our children to love the Lord with all their being.

  • Developing Future Leaders - Well, you have been praying for these three guys with us for many years. Sylvester, Henrique, and Rosemberg all got married in 2008. None of them is where they need to be spiritually, but God is not finished with them yet. Our goal is to be available as God completes His work in them! (Philippians 1:6)

    HOPE for JARDIM PETROPOLIS
  • Opportunities for home Bible studies
  • Receptive hearts to the Gospel
  • Balance of time between discipleship and evangelism

  • HOPE for the ANDERSONS
  • Provision of $500 monthly that they lack from their suggested support level
  • Anderson's safety
  • Balance of time between mission leadership and church planting
  • A Brazilian co-worker to join us in this new work

  • 12-27-2008

    Prayer Update

I know that I am late, but "Merry Christmas!" We had a great day. One of the kids commented that it was nice to have a slow-paced day with just our family. We ate a fairly traditional meal with Turkey and all the trimmings. Dessert was an apple pie. Elisabeth is a fantastic baker, even if crust can stress her out a bit. We even had candles and they stayed lit for almost the whole meal as the open windows and doors allowed in gusts of wind that brought the wind-chill to the high 80's.

Saturday night, the 27th we will have a make up youth Christmas party. Last week was cancelled in a blur of activity. Pray for the salvation of Ian, Leonel, Alife, Gabriel, Emmanuel, Kesiah and Juiliana. Juliana showed up last week despite our cancellation and spent the evening eating pizza, and playing cards with the kids. I was very grateful for the time to get to know her without the larger group.

Sunday we will begin to have afternoon services in Vila Rica where the numbers have dwindled terribly. After a 5 PM service, Dinho will grab a bus to Clima Bom, where he and his family are living now and finishing their preparation back at our first church plant. Dinho needs to finish his GED, take a couple of classes to receive his Bachelors. Pray for this transition. A very faithful couple, Enoch and Vanalda, will continue to lead midweek services. It is our prayer that the work will grow again to the point that a full time worker could be present there.

Our family leaves Monday, the 29th for two weeks in Ceará. We will be together with the rest of our missionaries for our annual conference and business meetings. This is a busy time with my involvement in the leadership. Pray that we will have wisdom from God and unity.

We have purchased year long Daily Breads for more than three hundred homes in our neighborhood. Pray that God's Word will be used in people's lives.

    His servants and your co-laborers,

As traditional a meal as possible in hot weather.

Just a dream, but it does sound nice.

    Prayer Update

I don't know where to start, so I will follow my impulse and go backwards.

I am just finishing application to Tyndale Seminary for Pastor Eriomar, the Brazilian pastor of our first church plant in Clima Bom and myself. We both will be working on our Masters in Biblical Studies to aide in our teaching ministries and with the level of teaching from our Seminary here. We will both be teaching and pasturing as we study, so please pray for discipline and strength.

Linda and I returned home at 1:00 in the morning. Alexandre and Monica picked us up at the last minute to join them and ten other couples from our condominium for a Christmas dinner. The fellowship was as good as it could be with a group that desperately needs Christ, but the potential for ministry made it worth it. We were both exhausted when we rolled out of bed for our morning run, but it will be worth it to see God reaching these lost ones with the Gospel.

Last nights study with Berto was fantastic. He recognizes the truth of the Gospel and is ready to believe. He asked if we could complete the last in our four part study before he makes his decision. Please pray earnestly for this study next Tuesday night. We will be taking a break over the holiday, and I believe that it is important that he act upon what he has learned. His girlfriend, Natalia, continues her discipleship study with Elisabeth. It is going great!

Linda and I walked to a neighborhood park with Rachel and Josiah yesterday afternoon. Linda invited a young lady who was caring for a very needy young boy. Juliana is sixteen and starving for friendship. She believes that most of the children reject her because she is caring for Lucas. Pray that God will open the door for Juliana and family to hear of Christ.

My study with Dr. Rui was not as good as some weeks. Pray that he will be challenged by the internal evidences of the authenticity of the Bible, and then that he will respond in faith.

Sunday's half marathon didn't kill me. It was hotter than blazes, but I finished without having a heat stroke. My family cheering for me as I crossed the finish line was an incredible encouragement. We then had opportunity to meet Amon's family. Please pray that they will be open to having a study with me after the New Year.

    His servants and your co-laborers,

Dan and Amon none the worse for wear.

Amon’s family with the Anderson tribe

Linda inviting Luciana to our Bible Study.

    Prayer Update

It has been a busy week, and it is only Tuesday. We had over fifty people here last night for a joint couples meeting between all of the Bible Churches. In 4.5 hours I jump in the car to drive 4 hours to Recife where I will board a plane to Fortaleza. I have another executive committee meeting, and the bus ride just takes too many days. Unfortunately, the cost of tickets from our small capital of only 1.2 million people is three times more expensive than the tickets I purchased from Recife. Pray for good meetings and visits, as we prepare for our annual conference and deal with plans for 2009.

Paulo will be filling in for me in my absence. He and his wife Vera are a huge help when called upon. They attend the newest church plant in Vilage Camepestre.

After my return flight and drive Thursday, I will be involved in an ordination council for David who graduated from our seminary last Saturday. You may remember that David married Karla, our first convert. They will now be leading the Vilage Church that has recently incorporated and is growing very well. I speak at the ordination service Saturday night, assuming that he passes of course.

Sunday morning, I will be running a half marathon. This running business has been good for my health and for evangelistic contacts. Pray for Amon and Josenildo. I met them at a run three weeks ago, and have trained with them a couple of times. Josenildo has won the Chicago and a few other major marathons in the US, so I obviously cannot stay with him except in warm ups. Pray for both of their salvation. Josenildo is a leader in his catholic church.

Studies continue to go well with Dr. Rui. Please continue to pray with me for his salvation. Well, I have got to RUN. Please pray that I survive the 21 kilometers (13 miles). I ran in a 10 km race last Saturday, and felt pretty good, but the extra 11 sounds challenging.

    Prayer Update

Thank you all for your prayers for Kurt Seboe. His injury the day before his flight to the US brought about some changes for his family and our family as well. He was finally able to fly back home nearly a week later after a five-hour surgery, placement of a plate and 9 screws, over two dozen stitches, and five days in the hospital. Please continue to pray for complete recovery, as this was a major injury.

Linda was home battling sickness through the ranks while I was at the hospital. We thank God that Linda never got hit with it. Everyone else had their share of high fevers, horrible headaches and even vomiting. We even took Hannah for a blood tests as her fever held on for almost two weeks. The test for a mosquito born sickness came back negative. This all had its impact on school, pray that we will be faithful to get back at it.

Since our last Update, life has been busy. Please pray for the following requests:
  • AIBICAL – our local association of Bible churches had a planning meeting at out home. Pray for three new church plants: Jardim Petropolis, Jatiuca, and Arapiraca. Also, pray for a very needy area in the capital called Via Express where we believe a work should begin ASAP.
  • Hope Bible Institute – we had our first doctrinal examine for a graduating student last week. The five-hour exam was great, and we look forward to David's graduation. I just finished Analysis of John, and will teach analysis of Genesis when we return to class in 2009.
  • Speaking opportunities – I spoke at evangelistic meetings in the church that David will be pasturing in Vilage Campestre. Pray for continued growth through conversion. We also returned to Coqueiro Seco for the first time as a family, since our friend John was shot in 2005. I spoke for an evangelistic service. Praise God that the church continues to be a witness.
  • Wednesday night prayer meeting continues to grow, but no decisions yet to accept Christ. Pray for Raquel, Kessia, João, Tiago, Francisco, Mateus, Moises, Miriam, Manasá, Alife, Emanuel, Gabriel, André, Geraldo, Bárbara, and Leonel.
  • Elisabeth continues to disciple Natalia. PTL for growth. I had the joy of starting a study with her boyfriend, Berto, last night. Pray for his salvation.
  • I will be running an 11K race with Dr. Rui and twenty of his friends on Saturday. Pray for their salvation and my survival.

  • His servants and your co-laborers,

Kurt was a great testimony! Pray as I follow up with Drs. Ricardo, Gustavo and Sueli.

AIBICAL continues to plan for further church plants.

Pray for Vilage where Dan spoke, as they transfer to Brazilian leadership under David.

The Gospel is still preached in Coqueiro Seco.

Four pastors/instructors questioned David while three other Institute students contemplated their day on the hot seat.
